Bucks House Country House B&B
Bucks House is set in the centre of the beautiful medieval village of Great Bardfield.
Bucks House is furnished with antiques, oriental and Turkish rugs and comfortable beds. Our beds are renowned for providing wonderful sleep, even to those who normally struggle to get a good night’s sleep! Our breakfasts are also renowned. We specialise in the full English, but of course can adapt this to suit the guest and cater for vegetarian and gluten free diets.
The public transport in this rural part of North West Essex is poor, so you need a car. We can help with ordering taxis.
Bucks House is one of the houses lived in by the Bardfield artists, a commune that was set up in the '50's and '60's. Their work is now world famous. Amongst them were Edward Bawden, Eric Ravillious, John Aldridge and Stanley Clifford Smith. Clifford Smith lived at Bucks House, and the art tradition continues with many paintings displayed on the walls. A later well-known artist who lived here in his teenage years is Grayson Perry.
We are 20 minutes from Stansted Airport, but our village is peaceful and deep in the countryside. The village has two pubs serving great food, a food store and plenty of unrestricted parking.
Within easy reach of Bucks House Country House B&B are some of the most beautiful villages and towns in England. Finchingfield is 2 miles, Thaxted is 3 miles and Saffron Walden 10 miles.
